When people here the word "college" they go crazy. They can look at it as "OMG i'm really gonna be a college student this is awesome!" Or they can say "oh no, i'm not ready for this yet." College is a whole new experience than High School. In many cases, people are so excited to start college, you have the opportunity of living in a dorm, you have more freedom to do anything you want at all times without parents telling us what to do 24/47, (which i'm sure most teenagers this would be a awesome!) and you get to meet many new people. Some people might be commuters and drive to classes which is perfectly okay too. You are still having the experience of college rather than being a high school student. In my case I am a resident here at Southern Connecticut State University living in Farnham Hall. I think that college is a huge step and a challenging chapter in life! College is a scary thought yet it is very fun at the same time. Depending on your major, you need to make sure that you keep up with all the work that is given in all of your classes. You need to make sure that you have enough credits for the first semester so when the spring semester comes around you do not have any issues deciding on the classes you need to take. You need to focus on your work and keep up with the homework's, and the readings because you are only doing yourself the favor of getting a good college education and making it to where you want to be.
As of now, I am still undeclared of my major but hoping as the semester moves along that I will have a feel in what I want to do. College is filled with so much excitement. You can have lots of fun in college but you can't be stupid. We all know that when someone says "college" it automatically means "PARTY." Yes you are supposed to have an amazing time in college but you have to make sure that you focus on the actual school work too. I mean that is what we are here for! Besides the parties there are a lot of things to do here at Southern to keep you occupied such as going to the gym, going to Conn Hall whenever you want to eat, you can go downtown and go shopping, and also relax in the student center for a while. I love going to gym. I try and go to the gym everyday! There are also many sports you can participate in. I was going to participate in cheerleading since I have been cheering since I was 8 years old and all throughout my high school years. I decided that I wanted to give it a break for a year or two, and maybe try and get on the team in a few years. I enjoy it a lot and I think that I would enjoy cheering here at Southern. Rather than the sports and all the fun things that Southern has to offer, I have set goals that i want to reach as I move through my college experience. Some of the goals i want to reach is making a lot of new friends. I have been here for only 5 days now and I have already started making many new friends and meeting lot's of new people. I love meeting new people. I would also like to maintain A's and B's throughout this semester and have over a 3.0 GPA. I think that if I focus on all of the work that there would be no problem in achieving my goal.
Am i nervous? Yes. But do I think I can make it through the semester? OF COURSE. I came from a very small high school and I didn't really get a lot of work or homework. The reason why I could be scared but I know that I'm going to be just fine. I know that if i just set my mind to it that I will have no problem and I wont be as nervous. I am excited to be a college student especially coming from a graduating class of 65 kids. There are so many more people that I'm around everyday and Southern is a very comforting university filled with tons of nice people, everyone has such great enthusiasm and positive attitudes and and as the semester continues I am excited for the new experiences and challenges that lie ahead in my life.
